Time caught in a frame

While browsing through iPhoto, I just realized that I had not sorted, edited and uploaded my Tokyo photos! Life was happening then. This will be a series which I grouped together based on the basic themes that stuck me most while we were in Tokyo.

I call this series "Peace" since being in the many gardens of Tokyo offered just that --a respite from the high speed Tokyo pace. Photos from these series are from Shinjuku Gyo-en and Hama-Rikyu. Shinjuku Gyo-en was a sprawling garden which aside from its huge Japanese garden also featured French and English gardens plus the d*mn biggest chrystanthenums. Hama-Rikyu, though much smaller, did not disappoint either. Being along the river, it also known as the "beach garden" and was the jump off point for the Asakusa river cruise.

Aside from these, I also saw a lot of pocket gardens all over the city. Having all these greenery in a city is what makes it a world class metropolis and not just another urban jungle.

notice how some of the world's greatest cities have world famous parks or at least greenery? i think that was the original plan with the manila/luneta but did not quite materialize as well.

yeah. we used to be beautiful. the pearl of the orient/east... and world war II destroyed alot of that. we never recovered... tsk, tsk... :(

kim and lai, you both should go to japan! it's really quite an experience :)

kim, i think you'll love akihabara --all those techie stuff and manga/anime! you might just faint from excitement... joke lang, cuz :)

lai, it's worth saving up for :) i'm hoping to go to kyoto, osaka and maybe tokyo again sometime :) but that'll most likely be years from now. then again i also plan to go to vietnam... priorities, priorities.

peej, we still are beautiful... just in a distressed sort of way. while i approve of "beautification"/cultural campaigns, a more immediate need (poverty) has to be addressed. sayang lang, cause we as a people have so much to give. i keep on wondering how things could've gotten so wrong, rotten and twisted :(

pam, it was really peaceful inside those gardens. such a big change after all the frenzy --esp sa subway. and i think they were helpful to the japanese kase you'd often find them there :)

michelle, thanks! i'm back to seriously thinking about buying a dslr... nanaman. haha! what nikon model do you own na nga? btw, japan was last year pa. got pretty busy lang kaya late post. vietnam na lang tayo! pero late this year or early next year pa ko pwede :)

yup. i must admit we still have beauty. distressed and hazy...

we don't have to wonder. we know it's mismanagement, poor discipline, bad intentions and greed.

it's disheartening that this was brought about by a few people and the majority suffer. enough for now, we've veered far enough from tokyo's peaceful gardens :)
